What are the parameters that affect the performance of LED street lights

1. Luminescence efficiency

High power LED light sources can generally meet the needs of general street lights. In the past, the light efficiency of traditional high-pressure sodium lamps was about 100LM/W, while the commonly used high-power LEDs were 50-60LM/W. Using foreign LED chips can reach 80LM/W. The higher the luminous efficiency, the better the energy-saving effect, which is also one of the most important indicators for choosing LED street lights. However, there is no clear provision for this in the LED standards, so careful confirmation is necessary when purchasing LED street lights.

2. Light attenuation

Some low-quality LED street lights may use hundreds of 0.5W low-power LEDs in parallel to reduce costs. However, the light attenuation of these low-power LEDs is very serious, with a lifespan of only 1000 hours when the light attenuation reaches 80%. As street lights that require long-term use, it is absolutely not allowed to use this type of low-power LED. Choosing high-power LEDs above 30W will result in much better light attenuation.

3. Self weight

Due to the high technological content and complex composition of LED street lights, some high-power lamp holders will have a much heavier weight than ordinary high-pressure sodium lamps, so higher requirements are placed on the corresponding supporting materials. The original weight of LED street lamp holders was about 30 kilograms, but with the development of technology, some LED street lamp manufacturers have tried to reduce the self weight of LED lamp holders as much as possible. Now it has been reduced to more than ten kilograms, and there is still a trend of further weight reduction.

4. Heat dissipation

LED is a semiconductor component whose chips are affected by temperature and decrease. When the initial luminous flux of LED street lights reaches 30%, they lose their illumination significance, indicating the end of their service life. Theoretically, the lifespan of high-power LED street lights is 30000 to 50000 hours, but the important prerequisite is good heat dissipation, especially for high-power LED street lights. If the heat dissipation is not good, the service life will become very short.
